Did you spot a pair of unicorns on the streets of Hampshire on Friday 11 February. Wait, what does that have to do with an Air Ambulance charity?
Well, 10 years ago to the day, we were called to Zoe who was involved in a severe road traffic incident. As she was driving along the the M3, Zoe’s rear tyre blew causing her to lose control of the car and roll into a ditch.
As a result, Zoe had a traumatic brain injury, which led to a bleed on the centre of her brain, a badly fractured pelvis and several broken ribs. We were called to provide life-saving treatment on scene and to fly Zoe to hospital.
To mark the anniversary, Zoe and her fiancée Kath walked 28 miles while dressed as unicorns to raise money for our cause.
Setting off from their home in Winchester, the pair headed for University Hospital Southampton – the hospital Zoe was flown to by our team and the place she spent the next six weeks recovering.
She said: “Though I can never repay them for what they did for me that day, I will always try to raise as much money for them as I can. They are my heroes. And if people would consider donating to this incredible charity, I would be so grateful.”
Some nine hours and nine minutes after they set off, the pair retuned home for a well-deserved rest!
Zoe and Kath have raised a total of £1,266. Sponsor her today.
Thank you so much to Zoe, Kath and everyone who supported them on their remarkable journey.
