Almost 600 people sign up to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance’s Dash in the Dark
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance’s (HIOWAA) night-time 5K fun run, Dash in the Dark, has sold almost 600 tickets with the remaining places selling fast.
On Saturday September 11 on Southampton Common, participants of all abilities and ages are being urged to don their neon paint and complete the night-time course to help keep its doctors and paramedics flying and saving lives.
HIOWAA Director of Fundraising, Rachel Leaman, says, ‘We have already responded to more than 800 emergency call-outs this year. Each of those missions costs on average £2,882, and every donation we receive will help to keep us on the front line doing what we do best: saving lives. We are so excited to see our fabulous supporters in person after so long and to thank them for the dedication they have shown us over the years.’
In its inaugural year in 2019, Dash in the Dark raised over £30,000 through ticket sales and participant fundraising. The 2021 edition will be the Charity’s first mass-participation event for almost two years.
Check in on the night will open at 6.30pm. The warm-up will start at 7:30pm, with the 5K dash beginning at 7:45pm, as darkness falls. The route is softly lit and paved throughout, and head torches are essential.
All participants will receive a free Dash in the Dark t-shirt and a glow in the dark medal at the finish line.
A full refund will be available to any participants who are forced to self-isolate and/or quarantine due to Covid-19. The Charity will be adhering to the latest government guidelines to keep all participants safe. For more information, or to book your place, visit https://www.hiowaa.org/event/dash-in-the-dark/
