Breaking the stigma of Wills and legacies

One in five of our missions are funded by gifts in Wills – totalling almost 370 missions in 2022.

But do you feel daunted, nervous or even downright perplexed about writing a charity into your Will? We’re here to help with those reservations and break down the complexities of writing your Will.

Get talking

Talking about your Will can be an awkward conversation to have. Death, after all, is a famously taboo subject. But leaving a gift in your Will is anything but taboo. It’s inspiring. It’s life-saving. It’s a way to ensure your kindness and compassion lives on for years to come.

What does leaving a gift in your Will mean?

Leaving a gift in your Will means you will be helping to save lives in your region. However much you leave us, you can be sure that every penny will go towards saving and improving lives.

When writing your Will, we understand that you will want and need to look after your friends and family first, and only then will you think about supporting your Air Ambulance charity. You can support us through your Will and two of the most common ways are:

  • Leave a share of your estate:

This is known as a residual gift. You can leave a percentage of your remaining assets to charity after your loved ones and financial commitments have been taken care of. For example, a share of your house price once it has been sold.

  • Leave a set amount:

This is known as a pecuniary gift. This is a fixed sum of money – and the amount you leave is entirely up to you.

Leaving a charitable gift in your Will is far simpler than many people realise.

What your legacy could look like

We care about saving lives in our communities – and so do you. Lives of sons, daughters, husbands and wives; friends, neighbours and colleagues.

Nobody knows when or if they’re going to be in desperate need of an Air Ambulance and its crew. But a sudden cardiac arrest, a fall from height or a major road traffic collision can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime. And that’s when we’re there. And every patient we attend, you are standing by our side every second of every day.

A gift in your Will keeps our crew life-saving ready: it could pay for our flight helmets, ultrasound machines or vital training for our crew.

However much you choose to leave us, you can be sure your gift will directly impact lives in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The importance of gifts in Wills

We are called to an average of five emergency missions every day – and one of those missions is funded by gifts in Wills. So every day, someone in our region receives life-saving critical care thanks to people who have generously left a gift in their Will.

While we can provide information about our charity and point you in the direction of further help, it’s important to note that we cannot provide legal advice. So, if you’re ready to write or update your Will, please speak to a solicitor or a Will-writing professional for further help.

If you already have a preferred Solicitor or Will-writer, you will need to provide them with these three pieces of information:

  • Charity name: Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance
  • Charity Address: F4 Adanac Park, Adanac Drive, Nursling, Southampton, Hampshire, SO16 0BT
  • Registered Charity Number: 1106234
