Our Dispatch team has picked up ‘Team Recognition Awards (non-clinical)’ at the University Hospital Southampton (UHS) awards 2024.
Alongside our specialist paramedics, our dispatchers are responsible for screening the thousands of calls that come into the South Central Ambulance Service 999 call centre every day, trying to determine which patients need our emergency critical care.
Dispatchers Jay Turner, Ruth Sheppard, Alice Plummer and Scott Sheldon (pictured below) picked up the award at the Hilton Southampton at the Utilita Bowl on Wednesday (16 October) night.
Jay said:
“We’re a small team who work within a truly fantastic, much larger helicopter emergency medical services team. It was a fabulous evening and we’re proud to have won our category.”
Mark Durell, our Specialist Paramedic Lead for Blood and Dispatch, said:
“Massive congratulations to the dispatchers for winning the Team Recognition Award at the UHS awards this year. The Dispatch team are the vital first step in us making sure we can get to our patients. They work so hard behind the scenes to ensure our patients get the most appropriate response and it’s great to see that hard work being recognised.”
The awards celebrate the success of hard-working staff and selfless volunteers at the hospital, including our clinical team.
A total of 24 awards across four categories presented to individuals and teams – recognising outstanding patient care, teamwork and innovation.
