Great River Race: Hampshire rowers tame Europe’s largest river race

You’ve heard of the London Marathon, but have you heard of London’s River Marathon?

On Saturday 21 September, six members from the Coastal Rowing Academy Club, based on Hayling Island, raced along the River Thames in the Great River Race in memory of beloved husband and friend, Captain Tim Price, who died suddenly in October 2022.

300 crews from as far and wide as America and Australia took on the 21-mile row from Millwall in the East to Richmond in the West.

The team, including Tim’s wife Brenda, completed the race in under three hours and have so far raised more than £4,200 for your Air Ambulance in Tim’s memory.

Brenda was proud to cox the boat over the finish line, having rowed most of the race.

Brenda said:

“Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is a fantastic cause. They have helped save many lives, run by staff who treat their work not just as a job but as a vocation. All money raised is important to help provide life-saving equipment.”
