Clinical Research

About the Research Team

We believe that research and new ideas are essential for improving medical care. Hospitals and medical teams that undertake their own research tend to have better results for their patients.

Our team at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is dedicated to being leaders in research and improving the quality of care before patients reach the hospital.

We have a small research team led by Specialist Paramedics Julian Hannah and Pete Owen, and Dr Jamie Plumb. They work on important national projects and local studies to help us provide the best care possible for the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

What are we researching?

One of our main areas of focus has been studying cardiac arrest outcomes in Hampshire. One in five of the calls we received in 2023 were to Cardiac Arrests.

We are working on ways to improve the chances of survival for people who experience cardiac arrests and are always looking for support for new research ideas. We have also participated in national discussions to help decide which projects should get funding from major national organisations.

A selection of our recent work is available below.
