Return of Southampton Dash in the Dark

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance’s popular 5km night-time fun run, Dash in the Dark, is returning to Southampton Common on Saturday September 24 for its third year.

As the sun sets and the night draws in, friends, family and supporters of the life-saving charity are encouraged to light up the night and dash their way around the course while covered head to toe in neon paint and fancy dress.

Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities can take part in this family-friendly event, with every penny raised helping the charity to treat the most critically ill and injured patients in the region.

Director of Income and Engagement, Keith Wilson, said:

“Dash in the Dark is a highlight of our year. And it’s a night our fabulous supporters come out in their masses for. Over £56,000 has been raised since our first Dash in 2019 – all going towards helping those who are in desperate need of emergency critical care.”

Check in on the night will open at 6pm. The warm up will start at 7pm, with the 5km dash beginning at 7.15pm, as darkness falls.

The route is softly lit and paved throughout, though head torches are essential.

All participants will receive a free Dash in the Dark T-shirt and a glow in the dark medal at the finish line.

Over 800 people took on the 5km run in 2021, and the charity is hoping to eclipse those numbers to help keep its doctors, paramedics and pilots on the front line. The charity has so far responded 482 emergency call-outs this year.
