Southampton Airport 5K Runway Run returns in aid of Air Ambulance

Southampton Airport and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are bringing back the popular Runway Run for 2025.

On Sunday 20 July, 2025, runners will be able to take part in the 5K with a difference, taking place along the runway of the Central South airport.

Those interested in taking part in this incredible event are urged to grab their tickets when they go on sale on [date] as a sell-out is expected of the 1,000 tickets available.

Participants will be able to catch the sunrise during the warm-up, before hitting the smooth, straight tarmac for a 05:30am start time – perfect for those chasing a new personal best. Each finisher will receive a bespoke Runway Run medal.

One thousand runners warm up on the tarmac at Southampton Airport

Gavin Williams, Managing Director of Southampton Airport, said:

“We are delighted to be bringing back the Runway Run in aid of the air ambulance.

“Our airport is proudly supporting the relocation to the community it serves, and the life-saving service the charity provides impacts so many people in the region.

“We know from previous Runway Runs how popular this event is, so I urge anyone interested to get their ticket early and help raise as much funds as possible for an amazing cause.”

Keith Wilson, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Director of Income and Engagement, said:

“This gem of an event is always immensely popular – whether you’re an experienced runner, thirsty for adventure, or you just love an early start. It’s a joy to be returning to Southampton Airport Runway, the future home of our service. I urge everyone to get their tickets as soon as possible – it’s going to be mighty popular.”

The Southampton Airport Runway Run raised more than £60,000 back in 2017-2019 and is returning this year to mark the start of the two organisations becoming partners and neighbours, with the air ambulance service set to move into its new headquarters on George Curl Way. The charity needs to raise £3.6 million to help convert and equip an existing building into a purpose-built airbase.

Tickets are on sale now. Runners are being urged to sign up and secure their places to avoid disappointment.

Tickets can be purchased via the charity’s website.
