Student nurse scaling Kilimanjaro

Third year nursing student Ami has been trekking around the UK for the past few years. To celebrate her 40th birthday and qualifying as a nurse, Ami is venturing further afield with her sights set on Kilimanjaro.

Ami’s most recent work placement has seen her clocking up the hours in the emergency department at University Hospital Southampton, where she has witnessed firsthand the work of our Critical Care Team when bringing patients into the resuscitation room.

“I was looking into local charities and was shocked to see Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance relies solely on donations,” said Ami.

“I knew straight away that was the cause I wanted to try and raise funds for. The work is so important: saving lives and getting people the urgent care they need.”

Having only recently discovered her love of trekking, Ami took up her new hobby when she was struggling to walk up a hill that her parents, both in their 60’s, were taking in their stride.

“That’s when it hit me: I had to sort myself out,” she said.

“So I started walking, trekking and doing peaks. I’ve now done all the highest in the UK and am excited to go further afield. I figured that if I was doing these challenges for pleasure, I may as well pick a charity to do it for each time.”

Join us in sending good luck and thanks to Ami, as she starts her adventure on Friday 4 August.
