Supporters soar at ABP Southampton Marathon

An inspiring team of 39 supporters have raised just over £10,000 for their local Air Ambulance by taking part in the ABP Southampton Marathon.

Team Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) joined almost 5,000 other runners on Sunday 7 April as they took to the streets of Southampton – helping to raise vital funds to keep us flying and saving lives.

Among Team HIOWAA, were 35 supporters from Regent Seven Seas Cruises, who took part alongside their colleague, Simon (pictured below) who was saved by our Critical Care Team.

Simon’s story

In September 2023, Simon Munford suffered a seizure whilst working at his desk in Southampton. The Air Ambulance team quickly arrived on scene, sedated Simon and travelled with him to University Hospital Southampton, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Our supporters make a difference

Among the team of runners were relatives of other patients, and Dean, a member of our face-to-face fundraising team.

Lily Worth from our Events team, said:

“We have been blown away by the incredible support for this year’s ABP Southampton Marathon. This year, we had 39 runners take on the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon, including Teddy Medic.

It has been a joy to support the team in the run up to this event, raising an outstanding amount and bringing so much awareness to the charity. We are so grateful to all that took on this challenge and our volunteers who cheered them on! A huge shout out to the Rees Leisure team for another hugely successful event.”

Well done and thank you to all of our incredible runners and our team of volunteers who supported us on the day. It’s thanks to your support that we can be there for the patients who need us most in our region.
